It was a long, long, loooong 2020 season scarred by disease and internecine squabbling (oh how Warren would have enjoyed the latter). Yet, the show must go on. Perseverance, legacy and pride will finally bring this DelFL story to a conclusion; was it a drama or comedy (?), who cares, let’s just crown a Champion already. The unrelenting chaos and acrimony behind the curtain shall not distract the audience, who have paid for their ticket and want to see the denouement they’re owed.
Posturing in front stage shine two worthy thespians ready for the bright lights and for the Director to yell ‘action’. Boner, more accustomed these days to the trolling role of theater critic finds himself the protagonist. It is a story as old as Broadway itself: a young precocious Champion, who like Alexander weeped when he conquered the world at such a young age, but now is overshadowed by accomplishments and achievements more contemporary and fresh. He is ready to be relevant again, to secure his preordained seat in Valhalla. Will he join the Commissioner and Birdman or will he stumble and figuratively break another leg in the Finals that have buried such double-Star fancies in past seasons?
The other plotline features an antagonist’s Proustian journey to victory and the question: will a Championship finally occur in reality of which has always lived inside his disillusioned head? Tony indubitably would take you to King’s Cross and have Hogwart’s headmaster explain it best, “Of course it is happening inside your head, Tony, but why on earth should that mean that it is not real?” Yet if instead the antagonist is to meet the fate of Richard the III in Bosworth’s Field, a DelFL Lancastrian might be bellowing to the crowd digitally, “an Akers, an Akers, my Jacket for an Akers.”
Good Luck to both!
