Pisa Shit Season(s)
Quando piove, diluvia
On November 20th, in the Arabian desert, Ecuador will face off against their archrival Qatar to commence the World Cup. Despite FIFA’s corrupt joke of a start, there are fevered expectations for many teams. Brazil is favored. Messi’s Argentina will be closely watched. France wants to repeat & Germany wants to put past tournament troubles behind them. Even America has a modicum of hope as they are situated in a weak group. (unless you speak to a pundit in the British Isles).
And then there’s Italy. They did not qualify. Us Italian taxpayers consider this to be a worse fate than drinking a cappuccino in the afternoon (if anything could actually be worse than that). But that is the problem, as any Italian will tell you, it seems to always get worse. La dolce vita è aspra. When you put aside the fascists taking over the national government. When you put aside the Vesuvius level of debt, and the foreseeable ash cloud of misery it may wreck upon an unproductive economy. When you put aside the migrant crisis, the energy crisis, the water shortage and the dilapidated infrastructure. You still have the Brown Sugar Pies. Losers in 16 of their last 17 games, the Brown Sugar Pies are officially the greatest disaster in not just the DelFL, but all of Italy. If they were an NFL team they’d be wearing creamsicle jerseys. The misery doesn’t end for Giorgio with fantasy football. His Serie A qualified Cremonese are soon to be relegated back to irrelevance. His fantasy hoops team is also winless. He named his driver after the Titans rookie QB, Malik Willis, who might be in the USFL next year. The aforementioned Azzurri will be watching the World Cup from the comforts of their home for the next month… Quando piove, diluvia. That said, a win this week against the Commissioner and all that dolore e tristeza goes away.
