Bird Bryant & the SEC
The so-called ‘SEC of the DelFL’ takes home another Inter-Divisional Championship, mostly thanks to its hegemonic Owner.
Birdman has been called many things over the years: Dean’s 2-3 (for being the 2nd most athletic son and 3rd most athletic sibling), Mr. Chalk, The Dip Reaper (because of his habit of burying chewing tobacco for later use), The PKD (Penalty Kick Deferrer), The Fantasavant®, and most recently Bird Bryant. This latest sobriquet was given to Birdman by Tony, of all people, in a private WeChat message. It was surprisingly magnanimous coming from a Divisional rival, but is quite suitable considering how dominant Birdman has been in the winningest division of the DelFL (see information below), which has been dubbed by those who play in it: The SEC.
Alabama’s Bear Bryant was dominant in the SEC. His 292 wins and 6 national championships are the most of any SEC coach. Meanwhile, Bird Bryant also has the most wins (108) and championships (2) of those in the DelFL’s ‘SEC’. At 7-1, he is the favorite to win his Division again this year, which would be a record 5th time (Bear Bryant’s 13 SEC Championships is also a record). To dominate those who dominate others is the real benchmark of greatness.
As the wrinkles and calluses materialize from years of holding only chalk in his hands, Bird Bryant’s focus remains resolute. His success is perpetual and his determination is implacable. Thanks to Tony’s new nickname, Birdman might be putting on a black and white houndstooth fedora to go with his 3-star Brown Jacket at the 2020 Bunnathon.
Here is a quick look at the Inter-Division results from 2009-2019, when the DelFL switched to a 3 division format:
