DelFL Playoffs: Episode XII
Will it be a new jacket or a 2nd star? We will find out in 3 weeks... Good Luck! #1 Rise of the Militant Left Owner: Billy Brown 2017 Season: 10-3 2017 PPG: 490 Playoffs: 0-2 Championships: 0 Welcome back to the playoffs Billy! Making his first appearance since 2011 (one and done), the Militant Left has qualified in dominant fashion by winning the Family Division, Regular Season Championship and the Points Championship. However, Billy isn't putting on the Brown Jacket just yet. While no team has won all 3 of the aforementioned accolades without winning the Brown Jacket, the #1 seed hasn't won the DelFL since 2009 (Bo). There are legitimate concerns at the WR position despite Crabtree coming back after Billy's BYE. For the 2nd straight year Rishard Matthews has found himself on the #1 team, but he is injured and uncertain to play in Week 15. Doctson is a TD machine, yet doesn't catch anything in the green grass. If Adam Humphries is starting any of these playoff games, then there could be trouble. Billy doesn't have to worry about the rest of the roster, he does have to worry that despite his top seeding, he might be in the wrong part of the bracket. v. BYE #4 Spike BALLER Owner: Jesse Wohl 2017 Season: 9-4 2017 PPG: 389 Playoffs: 5-2 H2H v. Squid: 0-0 Best Matchup in Round 1: Rex Burkhead @ MIA Worst Matchup in Round 1: Antonio Brown v. BAL Making his 4th appearance in the DelFL playoffs (and 2 of the last 3 years), Jesse can no longer be seen as an inferior Owner to his peers. He certainly has some momentum going into the wildcard week. The Spike BALLERs have won 4 games in a row, dominating the Yucatan division this year. Jesse now gets to face Daisy Duke Winner Squid for the first time in his DelFL career. Jesse might be the favorite out of the wildcard teams to win it all. Antonio Brown is the best WR in the game & the Ryan/Goff combo at QB will help alleviate any poor matchups (look for Matt Ryan to get the start Thursday night). There is a lot of talent up and down the lineup, can Jesse start the right lineup to win that 2nd star? v. #5 SQWIDICUS MAXIMUS Owner: Jeremy Widman 2017 Season: 8-5 2017 PPG: 371 Playoffs: 0-3 H2H v. Jesse: 0-0 Best Matchup in Round 1: Amari Cooper @ KC Worst Matchup in Round 1: Paul Richardson @ JAX Squid needs a first round win as badly as Natasha needed to get out of Findlay two weekends ago. This is Squid's 4th consecutive playoff appearance (tied a DelFL record), he has 32 wins in the last 4 seasons, and has been consistently competitive. That is until December comes. I guess Squids don't like the cold. Even worse, there are some ominous signs of past years troubles resurfacing. His top WR, like last year, is injured. Squid desperately needs a healthy (and effective) Amari Cooper on the field against KC this coming Sunday. The matchups for the rest of the roster that are not Raiders are not ideal. --------------------------- #2 Team Birdman Owner: Tyler Birchmeier 2017 Season: 10-3 2017 PPG: 432 Playoffs: 3-4 Birdman thinks he already has that 2nd star sewed onto his jacket. He is right to be optimistic. With 3 wins in a row, 5 straight 400+ games & a 600 point Week 13 performance; this team looks ferocious at the moment. There are stars everywhere. Drew Brees finished as a Top 5 QB, Alvin Kamara is a NFL MVP candidate (not just ROY), AJ Green & Tyreke Hill are Blue Chip WRs, and even the weak spots of Perine and Brate are starting to look more formidable. There is one potential hazard approaching in Week 15 that might impede Birdman's conquest. His stud WRs have very difficult matchups: Green @ MIN, Hill v LAC. Birdman might be relying on his Saints favorable matchup against the Jets to advance to the Finals. v. BYE #3 Team Pig and Sushi Owner: Warren Brown 2017 Season: 9-4 2017 PPG: 406 Playoffs: 3-4 H2H v. Jeff: 6-5 Best Matchup in Round 1: Jason Witten @ NYG Worst Matchup in Round 1: JuJu Smith-Schuster v BAL Can Warren beat Jeff again? After facing and beating his brother in Week 13, the Sushis turn around and face the Maulers again in Week 14. The Sushis should be confident. McCown will likely get another start against an atrocious Broncos team, Leveon Bell is playing like a man possessed and Cordarrelle Patterson is somehow stepping up in Oakland the last few weeks. Pig and Sushi might not be firing on all cylinders but they are starting to look a little like the early season favorties they were. This team still lacks depth. I wouldn't be surprised if Warren still is in the market for WRs and RBs (is it time to replace Hunt as a starter?). Getting the 3rd seeding was important as Jeff is clearly the worst team in the Wildcard Round. v. #6 Murphy's Mauler Grrr Owner: Jeff Brown 2017 Season: 7-6 2017 PPG: 373 Playoffs: 0-0 H2H v. Warren: 5-6 Best Matchup in Round 1: Duke Johnson v GB Worst Matchup in Round 1: Jerick McKinnon @ CAR Brittany Brown Banner yet still makes the playoffs. Give thanks to the great Antonio Brown. Jeff's back door qualification (out-magooed Magoo as Billy put it) breaks an eleven year playoff drought, a suffering which no Owner would wish on anyone. With the Sire League Championship, Jeff is clearly having the best fantasy year of his life. Whether Jeff can get his first DelFL playoff win is now the question. Unfortunately for the Maulers, this team looks like a 16 seed just happy to be in the tournament. If the TyGod can't go this week, then Trevor Siemian will be the starter (yikes). Jeff has no other options due to the $0 he has left. If Jeff is going to pull off the Cinderella run, it is going to be Keenan Allen wearing the glass slippers.
