The No-Shock-Jock
Is Birdman settling for regular season wins over Brown Jacket championships?
Listening to sports talk radio & television shows like First Take can be an excercize in hyperbole & migraines. Hot Takes and Click Bait are the modus operandi of all the microphoned blow hards in the industry. If you don't have a polemical stance on the topic du jour, then you will get as noticed as an Archie's girl moving to the big city.
The blow hards are taking risks. Their one-upmanship eventually leads to inadvertent slips of politically incorrect and offensive statements. So some might wonder how the DelFL's resident radio talk show host, Birdman, might fare in such a risk and reward industry. One DelFL Owner in particular has said that he has a difficult time envisioning the 'No-Shock-Jock' (this Yucatan Division Owner's words not mine), saying anything outside the margins of comfortability. This same DelFL Owner went on to mention how the 'No-Shock-Jock' is the type of gambler who never bluffs, always bets the Money Line on a home favorite, and supposedly, hasn't put a team more than a 2-seed in the March Madness Final Four.
Maybe this antagonist has a point, but from listening to Birdman's radio samples there is discernible eloquence and flow. Perhaps this scrutiny instead can best explain why Birdman, despite 88 wins and a 55% winning percentage, hasn't won a playoff game since 2009 (and that was against Tony, which is basically like a #1 seed beating Holy Cross). This year Birdman has only 'activated' 29 players (tied for 5th least in the DelFL). Birdman usually is in the bottom third of this category each year, which is an indicator of conservative management. Perhaps Birdman needs to roll the dice, take more risk, and pick some 8 seeds if he's going to win playoff games. We all know Grant would.
